BRING THE FILM "HOME" MURUGO TO AUDIENCES

Rebecca is a 24 years old Rwandan LGBTI activist, accomplished actress and aspiring filmmaker. She believes film is a powerful medium to do advocacy and to change cultural attitudes through personal storytelling. The film “Home” is about identity and refuge and provides a unique window into being gay in Rwanda. The story revolves around a family who, in the midst of a crisis, discovers that one of its members is gay and struggles to find meaning and acceptance. Each individual family member meanwhile is confronted with his/her own personal moral dilemmas as the stigma of being gay is highlighted.

As the writer and director Rebecca was inspired to bring this story to the screen when she was exposed as gay and had to leave Rwanda for Uganda, which made her think about those who had to leave the country in 1994 during the Genocide Against the Tutsi, because of who they were and their identity.

The film is currently in post production, and supporting Rebeccas film will help her complete production and move to marketing and distribution.
